Philip R. Cochran, 90, Tipton died at 1:20 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at Tipton Hospital. He was born January 10, 1920 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Ray Clifton & Vida (Gentsch) Cochran. He had also lived in Indianapolis and for 20 years he wintered in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Philip married Doris Bickel in 1945 and she preceded him in death on August 6, 1990. He married Joy Klingerman in 1991 and she died in 1993. He married Clara Nell Wilson in 1995 and she too preceded him in death in 2001.

Philip was the owner of Cochran Lumber Company in Tipton, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Kemp United Methodist Church, a 30-year choir member and served on many committees. He also belonged to the Bonita Springs Presbyterian Church, Bonita Springs Golf Club, B.P.O.Elks and a past Exalted Ruler, and a member of the Hunters Ridge Country Club in Bonita Springs.

Philip was a graduate of the former Carnegie Tech, now Carnegie Mellon, and was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He is survived by one son, C. Daniel Cochran, Barrington, Illinois, and one daughter, Robin Christman, Tipton; three grandchildren, Rob Christman and wife Carrie, Tim Christman and wife Megan and David Christman and wife Becky and four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily and Erick Christman and Lia Rose Christman. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Daniel Cochran and Richard Austin Cochran and one sister, Mary Alice Wetzig.

Cremation was chosen and a memorial service for Philip will be held at a later date. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Marjorie M. (Dickover) Raquet -posted September 2, 2010

Marjorie M. Raquet, age 91 of Tipton passed away on August 31, 2010 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, IN. She was born in Hamilton County on August 16, 1919 to Ivan and Bonnie (Thompson) Dickover. On October 12, 1940 Marjorie married Harold Raquet who passed away on March 18, 1995.

Marjorie had worked at the Citizens National Bank in Tipton for over thirty years before retiring in 1985. She was a member of West Street Christian Church where she had participated in the Winona Circle and had been a volunteer for the Tipton Hospital Auxiliary. Marjorie was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her three children; Terry Raquet of Round Rock, Texas, Deanna Brown of Greenwood, IN, and Janet Driver of Tipton. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Denny Raquet, and one brother.

Calling will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, at Porter’s with Pastor Melissa Grishaw officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Jim Ploughe, 71, Tipton died Wednesday morning September 1, 2010 at his farm. He was born April 6, 1939 in Tipton to Maurice V. and Velma V. (Findling) Ploughe. On December 6, 1959 he married Judy Lindley and she survives.

Jim was a life-long farmer. He was a member of the Normanda Christian Church, Mid-America Threshing & Antique Show and had served in the National Guard. He enjoyed woodworking and was a skilled craftsman with his tools. Jim was a great husband, loving father, grandpa and uncle.

Survivors besides his wife Judy include two daughters, Jan Garrison and husband Tim, Tipton and Jill Rushton and husband Joe, Sheridan; one brother, Terry Ploughe and wife Loretta, Tipton; two sisters, Janie Dellinger and husband Jerry, Michigan and Donna Robinson and husband Terry, Tipton. Jim is also survived by six grandchildren, Tyler and Tiffany Garrison, Megan, Katie and Jessica Rushton and Alexis Plass.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 4, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Steve Brown and Rev. Rex Dunning presiding. Burial will follow in Normanda Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Edna H. Weismiller, 101, Tipton died at 6:55 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2010 at Miller's Merry Manor. She was born April 24, 1909 in Tipton County, Indiana, to Alfred & Arabella (Angstadt) Weismiller.

Edna had worked for several years as a clerk for Walker's Meat Market. She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tipton and the Dorcas Circle and Ladies Aid at the church. She also taught Sunday School for 30 years.

Edna is survived by one sister, Dorothy Bultemeier of Tipton; one sister-in-law, Louise Weismiller, Tipton; three nieces, Jo Ann Swinford, Ruth Frerking and Joyce Roesler. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Weismiller.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 3, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Tipton, with Rev. Robb Roloff presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Rosella K. Tragesser, 89, Tipton, died at 4:10 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2010 at Miller's Merry Manor. She was born March 7, 1921 in New Lancaster, Tipton County to Anthony and Mary (Ripberger) Tragesser.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Rosella is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth A. Thomas, Helen M. Jones and Ella Tomlinson and three brothers, Paul Tragesser, Raymond Tragesser and a brother who died as an infant.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 2, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tipton, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman presiding. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home where a rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.

Joyce Hunter Calhoun -posted August 28, 2010

Joyce Hunter Calhoun, age 82, passed away on August 28, 2010 at Tipton County Memorial Hospital in Tipton, IN. She was born on November 2, 1927 in Fairmount, Illinois to Theodore R. and Dorthea L. (Miller) Byrne.

Joyce married Willard “Bud” Hunter on August 22, 1947 and he passed away on June 22, 1965. She then was married to Alfred Calhoun on September 13, 1969 with Al passing away on May 18, 1986.

Joyce was a 1966 retiree from Delco Remy in Anderson, IN. She attended the Kempton Christian Church, was a member of the Kempton Lions Club and the Tipton County Republican Committee. Joyce was an avid sportsperson. She would plan all year for the annual trip to Ely, Minnesota where she enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting black bear. At home Joyce stayed very active with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved beating them at playing Uno.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen and husband George Griffith, and a son Bruce Hunter all of Tipton. Surviving grandchildren include; Kelly (Dwayne) Penley, Shane Griffith, Nikki Penely, Brianne Penely and Joshua Hunter all of Tipton along with great grandchildren; Anthony (Derith) Penely, Hayden Griffith all of Tipton, and Travis Roach of Crawfordsville. Two step great great grandchildren; Keliah and Kaydence Smith of Tipton along with a sister, Jeanie Hulse of Zionsville also survive.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers, one sister and one great grandchild.

Calling will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010. Judy A. Baird, 70, of rural Tipton County died at 12:05 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010 at St. Vincent Inpatient Hospice Care Center in Indianapolis. She was born in Kokomo on August 16, 1940, the daughter of Glen and Georgia (Hoover) Ryan. Judy married George Warren Baird on April 11, 1959, he survives.

Judy was a seamstress all her adult life. She began work in 1978 as a Tipton Middle School and Washington Elementary School Food Service Employee retiring in 1994. She began working in 1994 as the Tipton County Soil and Water District office administrator and retired in 2007.

She was an active member of Cicero Christian Church, Joyorama, Soup and Salad Soupmaker, Plum Grove Extension Homemakers, Past Tipton County Extension Homemakers President, Secretary of the Tree City Advisory Committee, Associate Supervisor of the Tipton County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Indiana Association of Soil and Water District.

She was a Lifetime member of Indiana Forestry and Woodland Owners Association, Northern Nut Growers, Lifetime member and Secretary Walnut Council (Indiana Chapter). She designed and created several Indiana Quilt blocks for Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation District including designing the entire National quilt in 2008. Judy also served on the Tipton County Indiana Farm Bureau Board of Directors as Secretary.

Judy is survived by her husband, Warren, children Carol Jo (Steve) Christenberry of Atlanta, IN; Gregory Warren (Amy) Baird of Kokomo; and Brent Ryan Baird of Avondale, AZ; grandchildren Stephanie Lynn (Jason) Villars, Laura Beth Christenberry, Kyle Gregory Baird, and Emily Janel Christenberry; step grandchildren Greta, Nate and Owen Fishback and great granddaughters Madilyn Faith Villars and Lia Grace Villars. Also surviving is her Mother, Georgia Ryan and brother Garry (Mickey) Ryan and several nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Glen Ryan, brother Jerry Lee Ryan and nephew Richard Ryan.

She enjoyed traveling with Warren, sewing for all of her family and playing the piano. She will be remembered always for her kind Christian heart, warm wit, and contagious smile.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 23, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Cicero Christian Church with Revs. Tim Lueking and Kevin Carr presiding and burial to follow in Union Cemetery, Hamilton County. Visitation will be Sunday, August 22 from 2 - 7 p.m. at the church and also Monday from 10 -11 a.m. at the church.

M. Scott Cook, 47, Canton, Ohio and a former Tipton resident, died Sunday, August 15, 2010 at his residence. He was born August 26, 1962 in Tipton to Freeman, Sr. and Marianna (Maxfield) Cook.

Scott was a disabled veteran of the U. S. Air Force and had served in the first Gulf War. He was a 1980 graduate of Tipton High School, graduated from Ball State with a degree in Outdoor Recreation Management and was an Eagle Scout.

He is survived by his father, Freeman C. Cook, Sr. of Tipton. Scott was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Freeman C. Cook, Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 20 at Fairview Cemetery, Tipton, with Rev. Phil Collier presiding and burial to follow. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Louis Mitchell “Mitch” Jackson, age 71, passed away on August 10, 2010 at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville, IN. He was born on March 11, 1939 in Tompkinsville, KY to Estie and Olla (Goode) Jackson.

Mitch attended various township schools in Tipton County graduating from Tipton High School in 1957 and took various college courses over the years. Mitch was self employed as a building contractor owning and operating Jackson Construction for many years before retiring in 1984. He had served in the Indiana National Guard, was a member of the Moose Lodge and the East Union Christian Church.

Survivors include his three sons; Warren Jackson of Bedford, IN, John Jackson of Elwood, Frank Jackson of Elwood, and a daughter, Kimberly Ann (Jackson) Prater of Sheridan along with his grandchildren; Nicholas Jackson, Nathanial Jackson, Cody Jackson, Christian Prater, Elijah Prater, Brooklyn Jackson, and Grace Prater. Surviving siblings include Floyd Jackson, Dwayne Jackson, Jerald Jackson, Brenda Jackson, and Linda Lou Jackson. Mitch was preceded in death by his parents, a son Danny Wade Jackson, a brother Eugene Jackson, and a sister Alberta Jackson.

Dana L. (Vaught) Browning, 43, Greentown, died at 5:50 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2010 at Windsor Estates Health & Rehab Center in Kokomo. She was born in Kokomo on February 26, 1967 to Jack and Shirley (Collard) Vaught. On March 10, 1985 she met Chris Browning and they married on August 25, 1990.

Dana was a homemaker and a homeschool mom. She was active with Mt. Gilead Baptist church. She graduated from Tri-Central in 1985 and later from Ivy Tech with an accounting degree. Dana was fun loving and always on the go.

Dana is survived by her husband, Chris; four children, Jenna Browning and friend Steven Adleman, Sara Browning, Deanna Stevens and Owen Browning, all of Greentown; her mother, Shirley Vaught of Greentown, two brothers, Adam Vaught, Cape Coral, Florida and Brian Vaught in Indiana, and special friends Rhonda and Walt Janusckiewicz.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 13, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, 4439 E. 406 South, Hemlock with Pastor Steve Gollner presiding. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 - 8 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton, and also on Friday from 10 - 11 a.m. at the church.

Edward Hampton, age 78, formerly of Tipton passed away on Wednesday August 4, 2010 at North Woods Village in Kokomo. He was born on August 9, 1931 in Coles County, IL to Walter and Mary Jane (Sours) Hampton. Edward married Peggy Ann Hutton in 1953.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Loyal Order of Moose, American Legion, and the Elks Lodge. Edward was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1950 to 1953. He had retired from Tenbrook Sales in 1995 after more than 38 years of service to the company.

Survivors include his daughter, Connie Hochansang of West Virginia, two grandsons; Joey Hochansang of West Virginia and Josh Hampton of Kokomo. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Ronnie Hampton, four sisters, and two very special friends; Betsy Curnutt, and Marie Roach.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 6, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Tipton with calling two hours prior services. Martha Wilson -posted August 4, 2010

Martha (Stroup) Wilson, 78, Kokomo, and formerly of Tipton, died at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at I.U. Medical Center, Indianapolis. She was born December 6, 1932 in Tipton to George and Naomi (Batzner) Stroup.

Martha began nurses training at I.U. Medical Center, the same hospital where she died, after graduating from Tipton High School in 1949. Her working career included nursing, various business offices, and retail at Sears.

After retirement Martha enjoyed her favorite TV Sports - Cubs, Colts, Pacers, and of course, I.U. Basketball and football. She took great pride in family, remembering everyone at Christmas, birthdays, and specials occasions.

Martha is survived by two brothers, Robert Stroup and wife Julia Anne, Noblesville and Frederick and wife Beverly of Tupelo, MS; nephews Jonathan Stroup and wife Leslie and their children, Meredith, and Adam, Greenbrook, GA, Michael Stroup and wife Judy and sons Nicholas and Robert, Belden, MS.

No public services are planned. Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Jacquelin J. Ley, age 70, of Tipton passed away on August 1, 2010 at Tipton County Memorial Hospital in Tipton. She was born in Madison County, Indiana on December 28, 1939 the daughter of Robert Max and Sara Jean (Teeter) Hutson.

Jacqueline was a 1957 graduate of Frankton High School and had retired in 2000 from of Delco Electronics in Kokomo after 30 years of service. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing but foremost she was an avid Purdue University sports fan.

Jacqueline was married to Rex A. Powell and he survives in Atlanta, IN. along with her daughters; Teia Ley and her partner Cindy Mills of Tipton, Sally Vandevender of Shelbyville, IN, and a son, Chad N. and wife Rebecca Ley of Tipton. Step children include; Donald A. and wife Kirsten Powell of Frankfort, IL, Thomas C. and wife Donna Powell of West Lafayette, IN, and Steven D. and wife Shelly Powell of Tipton. She was also survived by her previous husband Francis Ley.

Grandchildren surviving are Cheyenna Mills, Haydon and Kyra Ley all of Tipton, Olivia Powell of Frankfort, IL, Haley, Christian, and Trevor Powell all of West Lafeyette, IN, Michael, Madison, and Andrew Louie Powell all of Tipton. Siblings surviving are; Jerry Hutson of Frankton, Teresa Nelson of Dunkirk, and Tina Kettery of Orestes. Jacquelin was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dale Ley and a daughter, Christina Ley.

Calling will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday August 4, at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton. Private family services will be held on Thursday. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton. Pastor Mark Ward will be officiating.

Margie A. (Wright) Henry, 78, Tipton, died at 5:18 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton. She was born May 12, 1932 in Cincinnati to Carl & Alta (Fowl) Wright. On June 23, 1951, in the rectory at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church she married Raymond E. "Gene" Henry and he survives.

Margie helped her husband Gene run his Bryant Heating & Cooling business beginning in 1967. After 46 years of managing a household and raising her children, she went to work at the St. Joseph Center as a receptionist, thoroughly enjoying that for ten years.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she volunteered in many areas. She served 10 years on the board of directors of the Tipton County Mustard Seed and was a member of the Sacred Heart Study Club.

Margie and Gene loved to dance, whether it was lively square dancing or a romantic dance to their song "Moonlight Serenade". They enjoyed spending time with their family and friends and were always willing to help at numerous church and county events.
Margie is survived by the love of her life for the past 59 years, Gene; five children, Suzette Bills and husband Ronnie, Potomac, Illinois, Lynette Baeza and husband Faustino, Odessa, Texas, Annette Workman and husband Don, Avon, Juliette Coston and husband Gary, Alexandria and Barry Henry and wife Jannett, Hendersonville, Tennessee; one daughter-in-law, Cindy Henry, Indianapolis.

She is also survived by two sisters, LaVonne Parsons, Kokomo and Carol Jackson and husband Jim, Galveston; one sister-in-law, Bernadine Henry, Tipton; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren with another one on the way; several nieces and nephews.

Margie was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffery Allen Henry and Raymond William Henry and one brother, Carl William Wright.

Personal tribute for Mom: "Mom, your legacy will live forever within us all. You taught us the basics of life itself. Your courage, strength and love is a never-ending gift we can pass along to others throughout our lifetime. While we may never know exactly how you did it, we just know, you taught us well. Margaret Elizabeth "Peg" Henderson, 84, Atlanta, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Tipton Hospital. She was born May 6, 1926 to Earl D. and Isabelle (Redmon) Gunkel. On December 15, 1946 she married Myron Lee Henderson and he preceded her in death on October 6, 1975.

She graduated from Tipton High School and Elkhart Business University with a medical secretary degree. She was a homemaker, secretary for Gaiser & Smeltzer and a bank teller for Tipton Building & Loan for many years, retiring in 1985. Peg was a member of the West Street Christian Church and the Leah Circle there. She was also a member of the Phi Beta Psi sorority and the former Happy Hour Club.

She is survived by three children; Marla (Henderson) Wittkamper and husband Eldon, Elwood, Dennis Henderson and wife Jan, Atlanta, and Karen (Henderson) Embury and husband Michael, St. Joseph, Michigan; eight grandchildren, Jentry Wittkamper and wife Alisha, Michelle Jacobs and husband Jason, Lynlee Funk and husband Aaron, Brad Henderson and wife Rachel, Marysa Embury, Matthew Embury, Derek Wittkamper, Bret Henderson; eight great-grandchildren with two more on the way; one brother, Harold Gunkel and wife Geneva, Tipton and one sister, Virginia Horton, Camby, Indiana.
Peg was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Gunkel.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24 at the West Street Christian Church, 132 N. West Street, Tipton, with Rev. Linda McKiernan-Allen presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Teddy H. Wesco, 86, Tipton, died at 2:18 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Tipton Hospital. He was born June 15, 1924 in Marion, Indiana to James and Mary (Lobdell) Wesco. On April 26, 1947 he married Idalene L. Williams and she preceded him in death on August 23, 2004.

He was the co-owner along with his wife of the Tipton Dry Cleaners from 1957-1993. Teddy was a member of the Masonic Lodge as a 32nd Degree Mason and the Murat Shrine. He was also a member of the American legion for 50 years. Teddy attended the Tetersburg Christian Church. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He is survived by one daughter Ronda Henry, Tipton; one granddaughter, Cherissa Vandevender husband Bill, Tipton; one great-granddaughter, Cheriah Vandevender; one sister Bonnie Evans, Hobe Sound, Florida.

Along with his wife, Teddy was preceded in death by one daughter Terri Kay Wesco, two sisters Marylou White, Linda Smith, and three brothers, James, Robert and Larry Wesco.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton with Rev. Lee Mangold presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, where military honors will be preformed. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m.

Toni Alan Barrick, 51 of Kissimmee, Florida passed away Monday, July 12, 2010 in his home. He was born in Noblesville August 16, 1958, the son of Robert and Joan (Vanbriggle) Barrick.

He graduated in 1976 from Marion-Adams High School as the class salutatorian where he was also the quarterback of the football team. He continued his education and attended Wabash College where he played football, graduating Cum Laude in 1980 with a BA in economics. He worked for over 23 years at Delphi Automotive Systems in Kokomo.

Survivors include one daughter, Courtney Barrick of Tipton, two brothers, Rick Barrick of Mesa Arizona and Pastor Mark Barrick of Orlando Florida; two sisters, Jodie Carlile of Bedford Indiana and Brenda Godby of Orlando Florida.

He was preceded in death by parents Bob and Joan Barrick, brother Brett Barrick and grandparents Guy and Ingle Barrick.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24 at The Bible Church, 1478 West State Road 38, Sheridan with Rev. Harrell Wilson officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton.

David L. Dell, 49, Tipton, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010, in Tipton. He was born in Tipton on June 3, 1961 to Harry and Kozy (Smith) Dell. On July 30, 1988 he married Cathy Parton and she survies.

He was employed at Chrysler in Kokomo for 16 years. David was a member of UAW 685 and a team leader in department 88 at Kokomo Transmission. He was an avid sports fan; his favorite teams were the Tipton Blue Devils, IU, Notre Dame and his beloved Oakland Raiders. After high school he played football at Joliet Jr. College. Everyone who knew David knew his love for cooking and grilling!! David enjoyed being around his family and friends.

David is survived by his wife, Cathy; two children, Lauren Dell, Clinton County, Drake Dell, at home; his father, Harry Dell; three sisters, Dayna Ferguson and husband Charlie, Tipton, Margie Hobbs, Peru, Mary Powers and husband Terry, Westfield, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kozy Dell and one brother, Harry Dell, Jr.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tipton, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman presiding. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 2 - 8 p.m. Friday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a wake service at 8 p.m.

Mary Lou Compton, 85, Tipton, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2010 at her daughter's residence. She was born in Newport, Indiana on September 21, 1924 to John and Susan Watson. On June 26, 1948 she married William F. Compton, Jr. and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2005.

Mary Lou worked as a medical clerk for Tipton Clinic and Tipton County Memorial Hospital until she retired in 1985.

She is survived by three children, Bill Compton and wife Marilyn, Okeechobee, Florida, Gail Sue Keating and husband Mike, Indianapolis, Penny Jo Thomas and husband Rick, Wyoming, Michigan; eight grandchildren, Brad Compton, Brent Compton and wife Jennifer, Angie Weins and husband Scott, Chad Snipes and wife Shana, Melissa Dennis and husband Scott, Doug Haas and wife Jill, Sheri Vandenhoek and husband Dale, David Brackney and wife Becky; many great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret (Peg) McFaden, Streator, Illinois.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by three brothers.

Theola Janie Barcus passed from this earth on July 11, 2010 at 11:45 a.m. in her home in rural Tipton County following a long illness. Born on July 22, 1929 in Hermitage Springs, TN, she was a quiet loving home-maker who endeared herself to all she met. Janie loved gardening, flowers, birds, nature and being outside at her home. She was a member of the Tipton Church of Christ.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Donald Winston Barcus; sisters Eurene Gregory and Imogene Copas; sons David Barcus (and his wife Pam) and Donnie Barcus (and his wife Mary Beth); daughters Patty Burket and Kandi Henderson (and her husband Monty); three grandsons and five granddaughters; and five great-grandsons and three great granddaughters. Janie loved to be called “Mom, Mother, Ma, and Grandma” and cherished all her kids so much.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Eugene and Plina Anderson of Hermitage Springs, TN; infant son Darrel William Barcus; brothers Tommy Anderson and Fred Anderson; and sisters including Ocoee Anderson, Dean Eckel, Belva Grubb and Sue Hickman.

Dora Lee Blakley, age 80, of Tipton passed away on July 7, 2010 at Witham Hospital in Lebanon, IN. She was born in Memphis, Texas on August 21, 1929 the daughter of John and Eva Lena (Kirkland) Rice.

In 1980 Dora married Domer Blakley and he passed away in 2003. She had previously been married to Hersh Robinson. Dora had worked for Publix Grocery in Naples, FL for over 20 years retiring in 2001. She was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church in Tipton where she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Dora is survived by her four children; Linda and husband Terry Guffey of Tipton, Diane Robinson of West Palm Beach, FL, Kathy Morrisett of Noblesville, Bruce and wife Maxine Robinson of Tipton along with step children; Evon Shirley of Tipton, Raymond Blakely of Tipton, Freddy and Willie Blakely both of North Carolina.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren with several step grand and great grand children. A brother, Bill Rice of Union City, IN survives along with a son in law Bob Ehman of Tipton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Cheryl Ehman, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday July 10, 2010 at Trinity Wesleyan Church in Tipton with calling two hours prior services. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton. Pastor Keith Moreen will be officiating.

David A. Smelser, 56, Tipton, died at 11:19 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Tipton Hospital. He was born in Tipton on April 19, 1954 to Arthur F. and Ann J. (Camren) Smelser.

David was a custodian at Tipton Community Schools for 36 years, retiring January 1, 2010. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church often serving as an usher. He was a lifelong fan of the Tipton Blue Devils, Purdue, Pacers and Colts. Dave assisted the Tipton High School Science Club with their paper drives.

Survivors include his parents, Art and Ann of Tipton; two brothers, Gary and wife Cathy of Ames, Iowa, and Rick and wife Karen of Elkhorn, Nebraska; nephews and nieces, Matthew, Andrew, and Ryan Smelser, Rachel Waaserner, and Stephanie Miller.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Emanuel Lutheran Church with Revs. Robb Roloff and Kurt Gremel presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home and Sunday at the church from 1 until 3 p.m.

Leo N. Clark, age 85, of Tipton passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. He was born on September 5, 1924 in Hobbs, IN to Leo J. and Marie (Woodruff) Clark.

On December 9, 1960 Leo married Gladys Northcutt and she survives. He was once married to Hope Rayl and she is deceased.

Leo was a member of the First Baptist Church in Westfield, IN where he served as a Deacon. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1941 to 1945. Leo had retired from Steel Parts Corporation in 1987 after more than 30 years of service to the company.

Survivors include his wife Gladys Clark of Tipton, a daughter, Susan Lea Clark Filbert and husband Robert of Newburgh, IN, a stepson John W. Hine of Noblesville, two grandsons; Stephen Filbert and Michael Garrett Hagedorn both of Evansville, IN along with two step grandchildren Bruce Covey and Sherri Townsend both of Noblesville. A sister Janet Miller of Mahomet, IL also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers and a stepdaughter Loretta Ellen Hine.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on July 9, 2010 at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton with calling two hours prior services. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton. Brothers Bruce Burns and George Billeisen will be officiating.

Joyce Ann Lane, age 74, passed away on July 2, 2010 at Millers Merry Manor in Tipton, IN. She was born on March 24, 1936 in Hamilton County, Indiana to Dean V. and Elsie D. (Rawlings) Lane who are both deceased.

She was a member of the East Union Christian Church in Hamilton County. Prior to her illness Joyce had been employed at Marsh Supermarket in Tipton where she had worked in the deli. Previous to Marsh she had worked at Carter’s and Dana (Perfect Circle) both of Tipton.

Joyce is survived by one sister, Marilyn Miller of Atlanta, an aunt, Martha Lane of Tipton, along with three nieces; Beverly and husband Dana Hotte, Brenda and husband Gary Blank, Bekah and husband Gary Hazen, a great niece, Megan Hotte, two great nephews; Austin Olvey, and Andrew Blank. A dear friend Michael Olvey also survives.

Freeman C. Cook, Jr., 56, Tipton, died Friday June 25, 2010 at his residence. He was born May 27, 1954 Amarillo, Texas to Freeman, Sr. and Marianna (Maxfield) Cook.

He worked as a consulting engineer. Freeman graduated from Tipton High School in 1972, from Purdue in 1976 with a BS in Environmental Science, and Washington State with a Masters in Environmental Engineering. He was also an Eagle Scout.

Freeman is survived by his father, Freeman Cook, Sr.; two children, Emily Watson-Cook and Lucy Watson-Cook, both of Wilmington, North Carolina; one brother, M. Scott Cook, Canton, Ohio; and Jill Watson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marianna Cook.

His visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 1, with the funeral then beginning at noon at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Collier presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton.

Richard J. "Dick" Phillipe, 86, Tipton died at 11:35 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Portland, Maine on February 23, 1924 to Margaret (Sanborn) and Peter Phillipe. On June 22, 2002 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton he married Judy M. Shuck and she survives.

He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1943. Dick left January 26, 1943 for World War II with the U.S. Navy. He served with the 70th Battalion of Naval Seabees in North Africa and Okinawa. He was called back during the Korean War and served fourteen months aboard the U.S.S. Grand Canyon with the 6th Fleet.

Dick spent 25 years in the woodworking business as Vice President and General Manager in the U.S. and Canada for Concord Woodworking Company and later retiring in 1985 as Vice President of manufacturing for Buck Creek Lumber Company.

He has lived in Tipton County since 1963 and was a past board member of the Tipton Community School Corporation and St. John's school board. He belonged to the Elks, American Legion and 4th Degree K of C. Dick was a past president of the Lions Club, Kiwanis and past member of the Tipton Board of Zoning appeals.

In 1992 Phillipe started the Tipton County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and served as its Executive Director for many years. A donation of land to Habitat in 1994 was the start of Koinonia Village East of Tipton where seven homes for low-income families were constructed by Habitat volunteers under Dick's watchful eye. A group of 500 young people from Minnesota came to Tipton in 2002 to do repairs and painting for people in need. He has lead two groups of volunteers to the southern states ravaged by hurricane Katrina to assist in the rebuilding.

The recipient of many awards for his service Dick received the Tipton County Distinguished Citizen award, St. John's Parish appreciation award, Suns of Kiwanis lay person of the year, Channel 6 leadership award, Elks Distinguished Citizen and Elks Citizen of the Year, Red Cross Hero of the Year, Boy Scout Distinguished Citizen, Indiana University Public Service award, and the Tipton Samaritan Heart Award.

Dick is survived by his wife Judy of Tipton; two daughters, Carol Ann Yee and husband Ed, Maryland and Patti M. Watters, Bristol, Indiana; step children Todd Shuck and wife Denise, Franklin, Tom Shuck, Lafayette, Tandy Waddick and husband Mike, Greenwood, and Talene Shuck, Indianapolis. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Fr. Luke Mary Fletcher, CFR, New York City, Tim Fletcher and wife Tina, Carmel, Megan Fletcher, Oregon, Christopher Cox, South Carolina, Jeff Cox and wife Amy, South Carolina, Ashley Welles, Bristol, and David Watters, Bloomington; eight step-grandchildren Abby Shuck, Caity Shuck, Hannah Shuck, T.J. Shuck, Tera Clouser, Savannah Waddick, Conner Waddick, and Cameron Waddick; 12 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren and one brother, John Phillipe, Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, Jackie M. Phillipe, a daughter, Jeannie Fletcher, a step-granddaughter, Tabitha Shuck Raines, and three brothers, Robert, Pete and Donald Phillipe.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Luke Mary Fletcher, CFR, presiding. Military honors will be provided at the church prior to the start of the Mass. Visitation will be from 3 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton where the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be recited at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery at a later date.

Gene Woods, 94, Tipton, and formerly of the Kempton area, died at 11:31 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 at Tipton Hospital. He was born September 1, 1915 in Clinton County to John W. "Bill" & Mary J. (Bristow) Woods. On January 18, 1935 he married Helen L. Stafford and she preceded him in death on October 21, 2004.

Gene was a life-long farmer, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Kempton Methodist Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodge, and Odd Fellows Lodge. He served many years on the Kempton Cemetery Board and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII.

He is survived by three sons, Terrie Woods and wife Wanda, Frankfort, John Woods and wife Sherry, Columbus and Gary Woods and wife Jane, West Lafayette; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Ted Woods, one brother and one sister.

Gene's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 21, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton, with Rev. Steve Knierim presiding. Burial will be in Kempton Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 12 - 2 p.m. Monday.

Ernest E. Powell, 88 of Tipton died at 6:47 a.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Tipton Hospital. He was born February 2, 1922 in Tipton to Monroe and Geraldine (Frye) Powell. On December 24, 1941 he married Margaret Tomlinson and she survives.

Ernie worked for the Tipton Community School system for 27 years. He retired as a maintenance supervisor in 1988. He was a life-long farmer, retiring in 1978. Ernie attended Rock Prairie Baptist Church in Tipton, enjoyed bowling, was inducted into the Tipton Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2003, and loved watching sports especially the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He enjoyed spending time with his family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors besides his wife Margaret include two daughters, Judy Colbert and husband Carl, Windfall, Jane Anderson, Tipton; two sons, Jim Powell and wife Annie, Tipton, Joe Powell and wife Kathy, Tipton; nine grandchildren, Cindy Bickford, Kevin Colbert, Mindy Colbert, Rick Powell, Jennifer Frodge, Scott Powell, Lori Seaman, Jessica Higginbotham, and Justin Anderson; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Isadore Powell and Larry Powell, both of Greentown; three sisters, Mereda Heflin, Ohio, Clara Henry, Greentown, Betty Duncan, Griffith, Indiana.

Ernie had several special caregivers that took wonderful care of him.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Carr presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Robert Gene "Big Time" Stevens, 71, Tipton, died at 12:13 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Tipton Hospital. He was born August 23, 1938 in Tipton County to Wayne R. & Wilda (Wolverton) Stevens.
Robert had worked for Steel Parts in Tipton for 37 years and retired in 1996. He was a member of the Albright United Methodist Church and Quarter Miler's Auto Club.

Robert is survived by two children Kim Bambrough and husband Craig, Tipton, Mike Stevens, Kokomo; two brothers, Gary N. Stevens and wife Wanda, Kokomo, Edward K. Stevens and wife Kathleen, Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Dayna Damewood, LaTosha Scott, Shaun Stevens; five great-grandchildren, Blayke Acord, Christien Damewood, Austin Gutowski, Aubrey Dutton, Ashtin Dutton.

He was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Gene Stevens and his parents, Wayne and Wilda Stevens.

Wayne Collett, age 67, of Atlanta, Indiana went to be with his Lord on June 4, 2010. He passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side.

Wayne was born in Harlan, Kentucky on May 14, 1943 to George W. Collett and Lydia (Blanton) Collett Lewis. He married Mildred “Midge” Gilbert in 1963 in Lexington, KY. He retired from Delco Electronics/GM in 1999 after 33 years of service as a UAW Journeyman AC Mechanic. Wayne had graduated from Middlesboro High School in Middlesboro, KY and received a degree in Electronics from the University of Kentucky in Winchester, KY. He was a member of the Atlanta Volunteer Fire Dept. and the UAW Local 292.

He is survived by his wife Midge Collett, three sons; Anthony Wayne and wife Kathy Collett, Edward Adam Collett, and Christopher Todd Collett, two grandsons; Michael Todd Collett and Jason Adam Collett. Surviving siblings include Connie Turner and Bertina Gray of Cresent Springs Ky, Diana (Virgil) Duncan of Monroe, MI, step brothers; Mitchell, Alvin, and Dewey Lewis of Monroe, MI, George Lewis of Thomaston, GA, and a step sister Hazel Hatfield of Angola, IN along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceeded in death by his parents, a brother George Collett, and sisters; Elsie Slucher, Irene Hatfield, Jean Beaty, Pauline Schmitt, and half sisters; Tootsie Collett Blanton, Edna Sidlow, and Catherine Fletcher.

Betty J. Stoops, 87, Tipton, died Thursday June 3, 2010 at Autumnwood Village in Tipton. She was born December 2, 1922 in Kokomo, to James and Edith (Barnett) Morrow and lived there until 1960. She married Willard M. White, Jr. in 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1965. Betty then married Robert L. Stoops in 1967 and he later preceded her in death in 1979.

She was a telephone operator for Indiana Bell in Kokomo. Betty was a member of the Kemp United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Embroidery Circle, Tipton County Concert Society and enjoyed being a volunteer at Tipton Hospital.

She is survived by five children, Bill White and wife Andy, Tipton, Sherry Richardson, Florida, Ken Stoops, Maryland, DeeAnn Peterson and husband Tom, Oklahoma, Jane Harshman and husband Bob, Ft. Wayne; one sister, Dorothy Horwitz, California; two brothers, Jim Morrow and wife Peggy, Kokomo, Don Morrow and wife Jane, Kokomo; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jack White; two brothers, John "Jack" Morrow and Paul Morrow and 1 great-granddaughter.

Janice E. Hamilton, age 63, passed away on May 28, 2010 at St. Vincent Seton Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. She was born on June 4, 1946 in Elwood, Indiana to Frank and Florence (Beers) Guffey. Janice was a 1964 graduate of Windfall High School and was a member of the Windfall Christian Church.

Survivors include her mother Flo Guffey of Kokomo, a son, Kevin (Tammy) Smith of Pittsburg, MO, a step daughter Lynn Hamilton, eight sisters; Joann (Wayne) Booher of Windfall, Becky (Larry) Dullworth of Windfall, Laura (Charlie) Clouser of Curtisville, Juanita (Bill) Schikora of Libby, MT, Dottie (Wayne) Savage of Crossville, TN, Rebecca Hahn, Bonnie Roberts, Minnie Hendrix all of Kokomo, a brother Frank Guffey of Kokomo. Also surviving are grandchildren; Tanner Smith, Kyle Crook, James Smith, Matthew Baker, Whitney Smith, Corissa Hamilton, and a great grand daughter, Bethany. A special aunt, Bonnie Carter also survives. Janice was preceded in death by her father, two brothers, a sister, and a daughter Stacy.

Enoch A. Bible, 93, of Tipton and formerly of Lafayette, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2010 at Millers Merry Manor. He was born in Antioch, Indiana on February 3, 1917 to John J. and Ella Belle (Atkins) Bible. He married Mildred Wray on September 19, 1937, and she preceded him in death on October 3, 2009.

Enoch worked at Foxworthy Pontiac and at his home shop doing body repair. He was a member of West Street Christian Church, and a past member of Lafayette Moose and Brady Lane Christian Church in Lafayette.

Survivors include one son David Lee Bible and wife Martina, Frankfort; one sister Ruth Hengst, Burlington; four grandchildren, Danea Dieselberg and husband David, Daniel Bible, Jr. and wife Danielle, DeAndra Barkocy and husband Frank, and David King; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Wray Bible, two brothers and one sister.

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Linda McKiernan-Allen presiding. Private burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Lafayette. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Harold J. “Joe“ Off, age 84, passed away on May 25, 2010 at Tipton County Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 4, 1926 on the family farm north of Tipton to Herbert T. and Goldie Mae (Retherford) Off. He was a 1944 graduate of Sharpsville High School.

On May 29, 1948 Joe married Eunice M. Julius who passed away in 2008. Joe has always been a life long farmer. Along with the corn and beans grown on the family farm he enjoyed the bounty of his very large garden. As soon as vegetables ripened he loaded up his pickup and headed off to visit friends and drop off vegetable or two.

Joe was a member of the Hobbs Christian Church, Tipton County Democrat Central Committee, a Precinct Committeeman for Liberty Township, a past member of the Tipton County Tractor Pull Association, and he was a past member of the Fairview Cemetery Board serving out the remainder of Eunice’s appointment after she passed away.

Joe is survived by two daughters; Cheryl and husband Gordon Orr of Tipton, Carol and husband William Powell of Tipton, and a son Philip Off of Hobbs, along with 10 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Other survivors include a brother George E. Off of Tipton. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eunice, a daughter Karen Off Doversberger, two brothers James R. and Herbie L. Off.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 28, 2010 at the Hobbs Christian Church in Hobbs with Pastor Melissa Grishaw officiating. Calling will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton. Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery in Tipton. Charlotte L. Bragg, age 84, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Tipton County Hospital, in Tipton, Indiana. She was born in Tipton, Indiana on April 27, 1926 to Virgil and Flossie (Miller) Pyle.

Charlotte worked as a in-home caregiver. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene, was a member of the Tipton County Historical Society, and supported the Friends of the Library.

Survivors include her three daughters; Diana (Herman) Bain of Lebanon, TN, Susan (John) Thomas of New Boston, TX, and Joe Ellen (Rex) Boyer of Tipton, IN, nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include four cousins; Tom Pyle of Sharpsville, IN, Gary Pyle, and Dave Pyle both of Kokomo, IN, and Pat Burrello of Indianapolis. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, former spouse; Eugene “Gene” Bragg, and one grandchild.

William Smith “Smitty” Ritter, age 73, of Hobbs, Indiana passed away on Friday, May 21, 2010 at his home. He was born on October 3, 1936 in Clay County, Tennessee, the son of Ben Ritter and Thelma (Davis) Ritter.

William was married to Opal Netherton on October 13, 1956 and she survives. William was the Owner of Smitty’s Auto Sales of Hobbs, Indiana. William also was Service Manager of Kmart where he retired prior to forming Smitty’s Auto Sales in 1997.

William is survived by his wife, Opal Netherton Ritter of Hobbs , Daughter, Rebecca Diets and Son in Law, Arthur Diets of Tipton, Daughter, Deana Schambers of Tipton, Son, Bill D. Ritter and Daughter in Law, Shara Ritter of Tipton, Son, Mark Ritter of Tipton, Son, James Ritter and Daughter in Law, Tara Ritter of Tipton. Also surviving are 12 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. William had one brother, Winifred Ritter of Windfall who also survives.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Thelma Ritter, A Daughter, Ruth Ann Ritter Harrison and a Great Grandson James Harrison.

Marta Jayne Morris, 55 of Noblesville died at 4:55 p.m. May 20, 2010 at Clarian North Hospital in Carmel. She was born on September 20, 1954 in Tipton to Richard Keith Overdorf, Sr and Norma Sue (Jarvis) Overdorf.

Marta was a department manager at Wal-Mart. She enjoyed sewing and crochet.

Survivors include three children, Jennifer Wylie, Vevay, Indiana, Stephen Jarvis Morris, Fort Hood, Texas, and Brian Charles Day, Seattle, Washington.; two sisters, Debbie Waitt, Waynesville, N.C. and Lori Henry, Tipton, one brother, Randy Overdorf, Noblesville, 10 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Rick Overdorf.

Donald Stinson Ross, 80, Tipton, died at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Primrose Retirement Community in Kokomo. He was born May 28, 1929, the son of Dr. Joseph and Bertha (Conaway) Ross in Atlanta, Indiana. On September 1, 1951 he married Bonnie Sue Quyle who survives.

Don attended Jackson Central in Arcadia and graduated in 1947. He was owner of Don Ross Motors, Tipton Ford Lincoln & Mercury, for 35 years. He was past president of the Indiana Ford Dealers Association and a licensed auctioneer and realtor. Don was a member of West Street Christian Church, 61-year member of Tipton Elks Lodge 1012, Tipton Moose Lodge for for 50 years, the American Legion for 57 years, a lifetime Shriner, a lifetime Mason, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He served as a member of the board of directors for Star Financial Bank for 28 years. Don was an avid hunter, fisherman, businessman, family man, and gentleman. He loved his church and community.

Survivors include wife, Bonnie, Tipton, daughters, Stephanie Ross, South Bend, Lisa Ross Todd and husband Rick Todd, Kokomo, granddaughters, Tiffany Todd, Kokomo, and Tracey Todd, Indianapolis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents Dr. Joseph and Bertha Ross, brothers Joe and Robert Ross, sisters Betsy Curnutt, Imogene Conklin, and Phyllis Cook, along with three nephews.

Don's funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 25 at West Street Christian Church, 132 N. West Street, Tipton, with Pastor Greg Reed and Rev. Linda McKiernan-Allen presiding. Entombment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton, with military honors.

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 24 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, 216 W. Jefferson Street, Tipton, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to West Street Christian Church.

Estalena Jones, 87, Tipton, died at 2:05 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton. She was born December 15, 1922 in Kenton, Ohio to Ray & Mildred (Reese) Crooks. On August 24, 1942 she married Warne Jones and he preceded her in death in August 1976.

She retired from Delco Electronics in Kokomo in 1987 after 32 years of service. Estalena was a member of the West Street Christian Church, Leah Circle, and was active in preparing funeral dinners and making noodles for the church.

She is survived by two children, Doug Jones and wife Sandy. Tipton, Pam Pyke and husband Nolan, Tipton; three grandchildren, Melody Baldridge and husband David, Jarrett Jones and wife Denise, Felicia Fritch; six step grandchildren, Teresa Washington and husband Michael, Debbie Crowder and husband Bob, Billy Wilkerson and wife Jackie, Jeff Pyke and wife Monica, Joe Pyke and wife Hope, Jon Pyke and wife Amy; six great-grandchildren; eleven step great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 22 at West Street Christian Church, 132 N. West Street, Tipton with Rev. Linda McKiernan-Allen presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 - 3 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Coy B. Turner, age 79 of Tipton, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on May 15, 2010 at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born in Bugtussel, Kentucky on May 10, 1931 to Edward and Harriett (Pedigo) Turner.

Coy moved to Tipton in 1945 where he met and married his childhood sweetheart, Lucy Marie Bryant on January 30, 1954. He retired from FMC Corporation after 35 years and went on to work for the City of Tipton Street Dept. for another 10 years. Coy loved to bowl, fish, golf and was an avid gardener. He was a longtime member of the Hobbs United Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion Post 46. He was devoted to his family and friends. Coy was loved in return not only by family but all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and remembered for his caring and generous nature.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Marie Turner of Tipton, three daughters; Ann and husband Paul Frame of Martinsville, IN, Sally and husband Harold Kawakami of Federal Way, Washington, Nancy and husband Tim Causey of Atlanta, IN, along with grandchildren; Mandy Curry of Puyallup, Washington, Brenton Frame of Martinsville, IN, Robin Yeary of Kokomo, IN, and Aaron Frame of Chicago, IL. Four great grand daughters, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive. Coy was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Catherine N. Burkhardt, age 64, of Tipton County passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Community Hospital North, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born in Phar, Texas on August 17, 1944 to Nathan and Mildred (Brooks) Rickman.

Catherine had attended schools in Dimmett, Texas. On November 17, 1990 she married Fritz Burkhardt and he survives at home with the family pets, Samantha and Bitty. Catherine had retired in 2003 from Delco Electronics in Kokomo with over 30 years of service. She was an active member of the East Union Christian Church, was an avid reader and a big NASCAR fan who enjoyed watching number 24.

Catherine is survived by her husband; Fritz Burkhardt of Tipton County, a daughter, Diana Padgett of Kokomo, grand children Kalie Dossett, Tia Dossett, Tyler Padgett, and Taylor Padgett. Other survivors include a sister, Shirley Tucker of Tyler, Texas, two brothers; Jr Rickman of Dallas, Texas, and Bobby Rickman of Tyler, Texas. Catherine also held a place in her heart for all family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Susie Dossett, and a sister, Mary Eggleston.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton with Pastor Rex Dunning officiating. Calling will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Porter‘s. Interment will be held at Albright Cemetery in Kokomo.

Clark E. McKinney, Sr. 83, Windfall, died at 9:03 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2010 at Community Hospital, Anderson. He was born October 25, 1926 in Boxley to Edward & Mildred (Smith) McKinney. On September 8, 1946 he married Marie (Mayer) Emmons and she survives.

He had worked for General Motors at Delco Remy in Anderson for 24 years, retiring in 1974. Clark attended the Hobbs Christian Church and was a member of the U.A.W. and a former member of the VFW. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors besides his wife Marie include three children, Diane Brown, Windfall, Linda "Chris" Weeks, Hobbs, and Clark McKinney, Jr., Carmel; four grandchildren, Michelle Meadows, Loren Weeks, Michael Brown and Jessica McKinney; 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Lassiter.

No services are planned. Cremation will take place and burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Windfall. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Crecencia S. Alvarez, 81, Sheridan, and a 46-year Atlanta resident, died at 10:45 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010 at Sheridan Healthcare Center. She was born January 1, 1929 in Austin, Texas to Guadalupe & Patricia (Sanchez) Soliz. On August 4, 1948 she married Pedro Alvarez and he survives.

She was a homemaker and had worked at Arcadia Health Center for 10 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Noblesville.

Crecencia is survived by five children, Sylvia Rodriguez and husband Arnold, Cicero, Donna Alvarez, Tipton, Max Alvarez and wife Sandy, Atlanta, Dale Alvarez and wife Chris, Merced, California, and Patricia Tragesser, Atlanta; nine grandchildren, Christina Hinds, Daniel Rodriguez, Charles Rodriguez, Jennifer Rodriguez, Amber Alvarez, Alex Alvarez, Celina Courtney, Chynna Tragesser and Jamieson Tragesser.

She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Austin Hinds, Sierra Hinds, Isaiah Rodriguez, Emilia Rodriguez, Gabriel Rodriguez, Elijah Rodriguez, Isabel Rodriguez, Alivia Rodriguez and Brady Branstetter; two sisters, Vera Galvan, Austin, Texas, and Francis Villanueva, Houston, Texas.

Crecencia was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother, Trini Ramirez, Janie Sifuentez, Mary Louise Soliz, Isabel Perez and Fred Soliz, and one granddaughter, Brandie Stewart.

Her funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 5 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 9900 East 191st Street, Noblesville, with Rev. John Zahn presiding. Visitation will be from 2 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Cemetery, Tipton.
